Precision wind tunnel models offer high fidelity test hardware in the development of aircraft performance data and flight control. Precision wind tunnel models are typically machined in aluminum or stainless steel with tight contour tolerances (±.001” to ±.005”).
These models are tested from low to hypersonic speeds at temperatures ranging from cryogenic to over 1200°F.
Precision models fall into a host of model types such as: Stability and Control, Drag, Force and Moment, Store Separation, Captive Trajectory, Propulsive Powered, Icing, and Acoustic to name a few. Most precision models are mounted using internal or external 6 component load sensing equipment. Models may be outfitted with a host of instrumentation that may include; static and dynamic pressure taps, acoustic microphones, thermocouples, accelerometers, on-board pressure transducers, inclinometers, dynamic flow control, and strain-gauged control surfaces that measure hinge moments and surface loads.
ATI utilizes a seasoned management, engineering and fabrication staff with on-site wind tunnel testing experience.
